Testing the Hypothesis Part.2

The Interviews that  I conducted provided a great amount of insight. I have many people that actually seem to think this idea is great. Some people do ask me further questions on how I plan to make the rope automatically find the dock hook. I plan on asking expert mechanical engineers who know the precise way something like that can be accomplished. I have also have had different ideas about how to make my invention a little bit better. One person said instead of making a rope magnetic make there be a magnet on the side of the boat and one on the side of the dock so all you have to do is pull up next to it. The same person also said the magnet on the side of the boat could be a little bit more protruded out so you don’t have to put any fenders on because the boat will be pushed away by the magnets. Other than that one person everybody seemed to think my idea sounds like something that could really be helpful.

Inside the Boundary:  Anyone that has been on a boat for more than a couple of hours. They no how tired people can get when they get back.

Outside the Boundary: Anyone who has only been on a boat for a short amount of time and does not know the work of taking a boat out into the ocean.

  1. Gabriella,

I'll be honest, I would fall outside the boundary as I've only been on a boat once in my life so I have no idea the amount of work and effort required to take a boat into the ocean. I think if everyone you have interviewed feels it is a magnificent opportunity then there must be something to it. I think a lot of education would be required to the person like me who has no idea how much your product would make life easier if I ever decided to take a boat out in the water.

  2. Gabriella,

I have spent a ton of time own a boat, and I would definitely fall within the boundary. I to know full well how tired people can get whenever they get back from a long extended boat ride. I think this is a good opportunity; however, It needs to be a little more developed. Overall I do feel like you are onto something, so keep up the good work!

  3. Gabriella,

I have spent my fair share of being on a boat living in Florida. With that being said, I think it is a great idea! The process of thinking is spot on, but I guess the only concern would be cost. Also, how big of a magnet needs to be in the rope in order for it to work? The rope is already awkward enough to throw. However, if you can team up with an engineer and make this work, you have a million dollar idea! The only down side to this is that you will probably get your point docked for not having recored interviews. Great idea and I am curious to see how this idea plays out!

  4. Gabriella,

I also fall outside of this boundary as I have only been a boat a few times in my life. However, it seems like you have found some potential customers that would be in your target audience from your interviews. It also seems like you have thought of some variables for your product, which is a good idea to think ahead like that and not be firm on one specific way.

  5. Yeah I'm not going to pretend to know much about boats, except that there pretty cool and if I'm rich one day i'll probably get one as a status symbol. This idea sounds good in theory, but sounds like it would be very difficult to achieve/execute. Seems like it would have to be a really strong magnet to pull the weight of a boat. Also how is this product meant to be installed on the boat/dock. It might end up being very expensive, but could still work considering money might not be a huge issue to the people that might buy this.

  6. Gabriella,

I like this idea, I do not spend as much time as I'd like to on boats, but I think you have something good here. The magnet idea sounds good also but one thing I would question is how strong of a magnet would you need and would that strength be harmful to any parts on the boat. The first thing I thought of was a compass and how a magnet messes it up.

  7. Gabriella, One of the things that stresses me most about going on a boat is getting docked! I'm not super comfortable on a boat so having a device to make docking and undocking easier would really change my attitide ahout boating in general! The techicalities of this idea would be difficult to figure out, but it's definitely not impossible! Your idea reminds me of the Ipilot self launching system.
